I’d be lying if I said we weren’t nervous about presenting at the Paris Operating Committee meeting last month. Seventeen “Rising Stars” from six different Publicis Health agencies were invited to present to 40+ global leaders on what the network looks like now, and what we want to look like in the future. It was a daunting task, especially since we were encouraged to be as truthful, and perhaps controversial, as possible.
Our team’s approach was to interview PH colleagues, asking them what’s good about the network and what they felt could be better. We packaged up a handful of hard-hitting quotes for some of the global leaders to read out in front of the group. It was similar to Jimmy Kimmel’s “mean tweets” sketch, without the botoxed celebrities. Although some quotes were quite direct, the committee appreciated the honesty coming out of the agencies. We ended the presentation with our recommendations in the form of a contract, which all the global leaders signed to show their commitment.
Overall, the whole experience reminded each one of us that the “Power of One” is a reality. Our six agencies really had to work as a team to turn the brief around in two weeks. It made us realise that we have friends, experience and resources spanning the globe that we should take advantage of every day. As one of our interviewees succinctly summarised, in order to be successful “We need to communicate who we are and what we do to everyone, everywhere and incessantly.”
This responsibility lies with each and every one of us.
